That awkward moment when you get inspiration in the middle of a meeting because your attention may possibly have wandered….. and you brainstorm a top 10 list for why you love Flocabulary on the back of some random handout…and you know how that story ends. You lose it, but you end up writing a rap instead. That’s never happened to you??
First of all, if you have no clue what I’m talking about shame on you. www.flocabulary.com is the pretty much the best web site on the interweb. Besides social media of course. I’m about to convince you in a big way why I feel the way I do.
That perfect top 10 list was gone with the wind right after I “Periscoped” about Flo that night. This would not be the first time I’ve been in that predicament, nor will it be the last. Lucky for me I love this site so much I can probably give you 100 reasons anyways!! Well, I don’t even need that stupid piece of paper because I came up with an original idea!! I thought I would be a little creative and channel my inner Eminem/Ginger Spice and give you my reasons in lyrical form. EVEN BETTER was the epic, off-the-cuff, teachable moment Friday morning.
I just teach Science/Social Studies but the whole school does writing for 30 minutes first thing in the morning. I’m glad because I love teaching writing!!! My class knows about this blog because I want them to see a real-world application for writing. Writing can be fun! Who knew, kids;) ?!?! I kinda veered off my plans yesterday. Shhhh. I told my students I was working on a rap about Flocabulary and that I wanted to get their help!! So special shout out to DJ Cool Chris, DJ Yo-Yo Yolibeth, DJ Lovely Lidia, DJ Fabulous Fernanda, DJ Excellent Elizabeth, and DJ Enchanting Evelyn for their help!! The lyrics in italics are lines from kiddos!!
P.S. I know how to write a poem and I know how to write prose…punctuation and spacing for a rap song, who knows?? So don’t judge. Here we go….let’s let it flow….(off to a smashing start, yes?).
