When it comes to home decorating, I tend to embrace a theme in its entirety (obviously, I am repping the American history love with the patriotic decor) and take almost every shortcut possible. Details? #aintnobodygottimeforthat I really don’t care for tools and unless it can be done by just hammering a nail then forget it. However, after spending 16 years in the classroom, I had quite a few classroom decor tricks that were perfect as re-purposed home decor hacks!! I have done a few updates since this Periscope broadcast because I still haven’t figured out how I want my “Productivity Palace” organized after 6 months living in this apartment.
I also brainstormed a list of titles for a future hit HGTV show for myself while I was decorating for fun. I usually chronicle these sorts of projects with short video like SnapChat Snaps or Instagram Stories. I think they may serve as more of a cautionary tale. These days it’s more IG so make sure and check those at when you are in need of entertainment and occasional wisdom.
I recently reorganized my garage and did some rearranging in my Productivity Palace. It was SUPER hot in August so not the best time to be outside if you live in the south. If you have ever had to bring home an entire classroom of stuff then I am sure you can feel my pain of what kind of project I had to undertake. In Summer 2015 I made a mailbox out of IKEA boxes! It survived a year with 5th graders and their “Friday Folders” and has been given a new life as an office supply caddy of sorts in my newly organized garage. I crammed it full and don’t advise doing the same if you want it to hold up long-term. Check out the directions (and what NOT to do) for my DIY Classroom Mailbox here. You could take the idea and build a smaller one for days of the week or to keep track of papers from different kiddos at home!
